Our platform serves a discerning audience of founders, investors, engineers, and technology leaders who rely on us for authoritative morning briefings and in-depth evening analysis.
Role Overview
We are hiring a Visual/Brand Designer to own and evolve The Meridiem's visual identity across every touchpoint — from editorial graphics and article illustrations to social media assets, marketing campaigns, and branded content. You will be the guardian of our brand, ensuring a cohesive and distinctive visual language that sets us apart in the crowded tech media space. This role is equal parts creative execution and strategic brand thinking.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and evolve The Meridiem's brand identity system including logo usage, color palette, typography hierarchy, and visual guidelines.
- Design editorial graphics, hero images, and custom illustrations for articles across all content verticals.
- Create high-performing social media assets for Twitter/X, LinkedIn, Instagram, and emerging platforms, optimized for engagement and brand consistency.
- Develop marketing collateral including email templates, newsletter headers, event materials, landing pages, and pitch decks.
- Produce branded content assets for partnerships, sponsored features, and advertising placements while maintaining editorial integrity.
- Collaborate with the editorial team to create visual narratives that complement and elevate written journalism.
- Design infographics and data visualizations that make complex technology topics accessible and shareable.
- Build and maintain a library of reusable brand templates and asset kits that enable the broader team to produce on-brand materials quickly.
- Establish visual standards for photography, iconography, and illustration styles used across the platform.
- Partner with the product design team to ensure brand consistency between marketing surfaces and the core product experience.
- Stay current with visual trends in digital media and technology branding, bringing fresh ideas to the team.
Requirements
- 4+ years of professional experience in visual design, brand design, or a related creative role.
- Strong portfolio showcasing brand identity work, editorial design, and multi-channel asset creation.
- Expert proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) and Figma.
- Excellent typographic sensibility with experience designing for long-form editorial content and digital-first media.
- Demonstrated ability to create cohesive visual systems that scale across formats and channels.
- Experience producing social media content at volume while maintaining quality and brand consistency.
- Strong understanding of print and digital production requirements, file formats, and color management.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet tight deadlines in a newsroom-paced environment.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience working at a media company, news organization, or publishing house.
- Illustration skills — editorial, conceptual, or data-driven illustration.
- Basic motion graphics or animation capability for social media content.
- Familiarity with email design tools (Beehiiv, Mailchimp, or similar newsletter platforms).
- Understanding of web design constraints and how brand assets translate to responsive digital experiences.
- Photography or photo editing experience for editorial imagery.
