Technical Product Manager
Technical Product Manager
About the role
About The Meridiem
The Meridiem is a fast-growing technology media platform on a mission to deliver timely, high-quality technology journalism. We cover the stories that matter across AI, startups, venture capital, cybersecurity, and enterprise tech — delivering morning briefings and evening analysis to a growing audience of technology professionals and decision-makers.
Role Overview
As a Technical Product Manager, you will own the platform layer that enables The Meridiem to operate at scale — CMS workflows, API integrations, content delivery infrastructure, and developer experience. You will sit at the intersection of engineering and product, ensuring that internal tools, editorial workflows, and third-party integrations work seamlessly together. This role demands strong technical fluency, the ability to manage complex system dependencies, and a pragmatic approach to building scalable platforms in a startup environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the product strategy for The Meridiem's content management platform, including Strapi CMS workflows, content modeling, and editorial tooling
- Define requirements for API design and integration patterns, working closely with backend engineers to ensure reliable, well-documented endpoints
- Drive platform scalability initiatives — identifying bottlenecks in content delivery, caching, and API performance before they impact readers
- Manage third-party integration roadmaps including newsletter platforms (Beehiiv), authentication providers, analytics tools, and CDN services
- Design and optimize editorial workflows — article creation, review, scheduling, and multi-channel publishing across web, RSS, and newsletters
- Own the developer experience strategy, improving build times, deployment processes, and local development tooling for the engineering team
- Define technical specifications and architecture requirements for complex features, translating product needs into engineering-ready plans
- Coordinate cross-functional dependencies between engineering, editorial, and infrastructure teams during feature development
- Monitor platform reliability metrics (uptime, API latency, error rates) and prioritize technical improvements alongside feature work
- Evaluate and recommend build-vs-buy decisions for platform capabilities, managing vendor relationships where appropriate
- Maintain a technical product backlog that balances feature development, technical debt reduction, and platform improvements
- Document platform architecture decisions, integration patterns, and system contracts for team knowledge sharing
Requirements
- 4+ years of product management experience with a strong technical focus
- Deep understanding of API design, REST principles, and integration architecture
- Experience managing CMS platforms or content delivery systems (Strapi, Contentful, Sanity, or similar)
- Technical fluency sufficient to read code, review pull requests, and discuss architectural trade-offs with engineers
- Experience with platform scalability challenges — caching, performance optimization, and infrastructure planning
- Strong understanding of authentication systems (OAuth 2.0, JWT, SSO) and user identity management
- Ability to write detailed technical specifications and system design documents
- Experience managing complex cross-functional projects with multiple engineering dependencies
- Familiarity with agile development practices and project management tools (Linear, Jira, or similar)
- Excellent communication skills bridging technical and non-technical stakeholders
Nice-to-Have
- Hands-on engineering background (former developer or engineering manager)
- Experience with Cloudflare Workers, edge computing, or serverless architectures
- Familiarity with Next.js, React, or modern JavaScript frameworks
- Experience with newsletter and email delivery platforms (Beehiiv, SendGrid, or similar)
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, deployment automation, and infrastructure as code
- Experience at a digital media company or content platform
- Understanding of SEO technical requirements (structured data, sitemaps, canonical URLs)
- Familiarity with the OpenNext adapter or non-Vercel Next.js deployment patterns
What We Offer
- Competitive salary ($135,000 - $170,000) with meaningful equity in a Series A startup
- Fully remote work environment with flexible hours
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Generous PTO and company-wide recharge days
- Annual learning and development stipend ($2,000)
- Home office setup allowance
- The opportunity to own the platform architecture for a company at the frontier of digital journalism
