- Mentor reporters and junior editors, providing constructive feedback on drafts, story structure, and sourcing.
- Commission stories and develop story ideas that advance coverage of your assigned beat areas.
- Manage freelance contributors for your section, including assigning stories, editing submissions, and maintaining quality standards.
- Build and maintain strong source relationships within your beat area, cultivating a network of industry contacts for exclusive stories and expert commentary.
- Collaborate with the Managing Editor and Editor-in-Chief on editorial planning and content strategy for your verticals.
- Ensure timely publication of content, managing deadlines across daily news, analysis pieces, and long-form features.
- Stay deeply informed on developments in your beat areas, identifying emerging trends and stories before they break.
- Contribute to editorial meetings with story pitches, coverage assessments, and competitive analysis.
- Occasionally write analysis pieces, features, or commentary drawing on your beat expertise.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in journalism, with at least 2 years in an editing role.
- Strong knowledge of one or more of The Meridiem's core verticals: AI/ML, startups, venture capital, cybersecurity, or enterprise technology.
- Excellent editing skills with the ability to elevate drafts while preserving the writer's voice.
- Proven ability to mentor and develop reporters and junior editorial staff.
- Experience commissioning content and managing freelance contributors.
- Strong source network in the technology industry or demonstrated ability to build one rapidly.
- Sharp news judgment and the ability to identify stories that resonate with a professional tech audience.
- Commitment to journalistic ethics, independence, and accuracy.
Nice-to-Have
- Byline portfolio demonstrating deep expertise in technology journalism.
- Experience at a digital-first or newsletter-based publication.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms and editorial workflow tools.
- Experience with SEO and audience analytics for editorial decision-making.
- Background covering multiple technology verticals.
- Experience with multimedia content production (podcasts, video, interactive features).
What We Offer
- Highly competitive salary with significant equity in a Series A startup.
- Fully remote work with flexible hours.
- Health, dental, and vision benefits.
- Generous PTO and company-wide recharge days.
- Annual conference and professional development budget.
- The opportunity to define the editorial identity of a category-defining media company.
- Full editorial independence and a leadership seat at the table.
