Role Overview
We are looking for a Section Editor to own a specific content vertical at The Meridiem — whether that is AI/ML, Startups, Venture Capital, Cybersecurity, or Enterprise Technology. You will be the editorial lead for your section, editing daily content, collaborating with reporters on story angles and sourcing, and managing the content calendar to ensure consistent, high-quality output that serves our audience of tech professionals.
Key Responsibilities
- Own editorial responsibility for a specific content vertical, ensuring comprehensive and timely coverage.
- Edit daily content for your section, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and adherence to The Meridiem's style guide and editorial standards.
- Collaborate with reporters on story angles, sourcing strategies, and narrative structure to produce compelling journalism.
- Manage the content calendar for your section, planning coverage across daily news, analysis, and features.
- Develop story ideas and identify emerging trends within your vertical, keeping The Meridiem ahead of the news cycle.
- Ensure all published content meets quality standards for accuracy, fairness, and readability.
- Work with the Senior Editor and Managing Editor on cross-vertical stories and editorial planning.
- Provide feedback and guidance to reporters, helping them grow their skills and deepen their beat knowledge.
- Monitor competitor coverage and industry developments to identify gaps and opportunities in your section's output.
- Contribute to editorial meetings with story pitches, coverage updates, and section performance insights.
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in journalism, with at least 1 year in an editing role.
- Strong knowledge of at least one of The Meridiem's core verticals: AI/ML, Startups, Venture Capital, Cybersecurity, or Enterprise Technology.
- Solid editing skills with attention to accuracy, structure, and readability.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with reporters, providing clear direction on story development and sourcing.
- Strong organizational skills — comfortable managing a content calendar and juggling multiple stories at various stages of production.
- Good news judgment with an understanding of what resonates with a professional tech audience.
- Familiarity with the daily rhythms of a digital newsroom, including fast turnaround times and evolving priorities.
- Commitment to journalistic ethics, independence, and accuracy.
Nice-to-Have
- Byline portfolio demonstrating subject matter expertise in a technology vertical.
- Experience at a digital-first or newsletter-based publication.
- Familiarity with CMS platforms and editorial workflow tools.
- Experience with SEO best practices and audience analytics.
- Background working with freelance contributors.
- Experience with multimedia content formats (podcasts, video, newsletters).
What We Offer
- Highly competitive salary with significant equity in a Series A startup.
- Fully remote work with flexible hours.
- Health, dental, and vision benefits.
- Generous PTO and company-wide recharge days.
- Annual conference and professional development budget.
- The opportunity to define the editorial identity of a category-defining media company.
- Full editorial independence and a leadership seat at the table.
