About the role
About The Meridiem
The Meridiem is a fast-growing technology media platform on a mission to deliver timely, high-quality technology journalism. We cover the stories that matter across AI, startups, venture capital, cybersecurity, and enterprise tech — delivering morning briefings and evening analysis to a growing audience of technology professionals and decision-makers.
Role Overview
As a QA Engineer, you will be the guardian of quality across The Meridiem's platform. You will establish our testing strategy from the ground up — building automated test suites, designing end-to-end testing workflows, and ensuring that every feature we ship meets the reliability and performance standards our readers expect. This is a foundational role where you will define how quality is measured and maintained as the platform scales.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement a comprehensive test automation strategy covering unit, integration, and end-to-end testing for a Next.js 16 application
- Build and maintain E2E test suites using Playwright or Cypress that validate critical reader journeys — article reading, search, navigation, authentication, and engagement features
- Develop cross-browser and cross-device testing processes ensuring consistent experiences across Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and mobile browsers
- Create performance testing frameworks to monitor page load times, Core Web Vitals, and API response latency under varying traffic conditions
- Test CMS content pipelines end-to-end — from article creation in Strapi through API delivery to frontend rendering
- Validate authentication flows across all providers (Google, LinkedIn, Twitter, credentials) and edge cases (session expiry, token refresh)
- Build regression test suites that run in CI/CD pipelines, catching issues before they reach production
- Conduct accessibility audits and automated WCAG 2.1 compliance testing across all user-facing pages
- Collaborate with product and engineering to define acceptance criteria and test plans for new features
- Monitor production error rates, establish quality metrics, and report on platform reliability trends
- Test responsive layouts and content rendering across the platform's six content verticals and dynamic routing system
- Champion a quality-first engineering culture through documentation, testing guidelines, and developer education
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in QA engineering or software testing
- Strong proficiency in test automation frameworks (Playwright, Cypress, or Selenium)
- Experience testing modern web applications built with React and Next.js
- Hands-on experience with CI/CD integration for automated test execution (GitHub Actions or similar)
- Knowledge of performance testing tools and methodologies (Lighthouse, WebPageTest, k6, or similar)
- Understanding of web accessibility testing tools and WCAG standards
- Experience with API testing and validation (Postman, REST client tools, or programmatic testing)
- Familiarity with TypeScript or JavaScript for writing test scripts
- Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and edge case identification
- Excellent communication skills for writing clear bug reports and collaborating with remote teams
Nice-to-Have
- Experience testing content management systems or media platforms
- Familiarity with Cloudflare Workers and edge computing testing challenges
- Experience with visual regression testing tools (Percy, Chromatic, or similar)
- Knowledge of load testing for high-traffic content sites
- Experience with mobile testing and responsive design validation
- Familiarity with SEO testing and structured data validation
- Background in security testing (XSS, CSRF, authentication bypass)
- Experience establishing QA processes at early-stage startups
