Role Overview
As a Junior Reporter at The Meridiem, you will join our editorial team in an entry-level reporting role covering technology news. You will write news briefs, aggregate industry developments, and support senior reporters in producing daily coverage. Working under the mentorship of senior editorial staff, you will learn beat reporting, source development, and the craft of technology journalism. This is an ideal role for a recent graduate or early-career journalist eager to build a career in tech media.
Key Responsibilities
- Write news briefs and short-form stories covering technology industry developments
- Aggregate and synthesize industry news, funding announcements, product launches, and regulatory updates
- Support senior reporters with research, fact-checking, and source development
- Contribute to the daily news production pipeline, including morning briefings
- Learn beat reporting under the mentorship of senior editorial staff
- Monitor news wires, social media, and industry sources for breaking developments
- Assist with compiling data, quotes, and background information for larger stories
- Ensure all work meets The Meridiem's standards for accuracy and editorial quality
- Participate in editorial meetings and pitch story ideas as skills develop
Requirements
- 0-2 years of journalism or reporting experience; recent graduates welcome
- Strong writing skills and a demonstrable interest in technology, business, or media
- Ability to produce clean, accurate copy and work under deadline pressure
- Intellectual curiosity and eagerness to learn about the technology industry
- Attention to detail and commitment to factual accuracy
- Comfort working in a remote-first, async environment
- Familiarity with major technology news topics (AI, startups, VC, cybersecurity, enterprise tech)
- A degree in journalism, communications, English, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Nice-to-Have
- Published clips from student media, internships, or freelance work
- Experience with content management systems or digital publishing tools
- Familiarity with SEO basics and digital media best practices
- An active interest in following the technology industry through newsletters, podcasts, or social media
- Previous internship at a news outlet or media company
- Basic data literacy and comfort with spreadsheets and research tools
