About the role
About The Meridiem
The Meridiem is a fast-growing technology media platform on a mission to deliver timely, high-quality technology journalism. We cover the stories that matter across AI, startups, venture capital, cybersecurity, and enterprise tech — delivering morning briefings and evening analysis to a growing audience of technology professionals and decision-makers.
Role Overview
As an Infrastructure/DevOps Engineer, you will own the deployment, reliability, and scalability of The Meridiem's entire platform. Our architecture runs on Cloudflare's edge network — Workers, R2, Pages — and you will be responsible for making it fast, resilient, and cost-efficient at scale. From CI/CD pipelines to caching strategies to monitoring and alerting, you will ensure that breaking news reaches readers without delay and that our systems handle traffic spikes gracefully.
Key Responsibilities
- Own and optimize the Cloudflare Workers deployment pipeline, including build processes, environment management, and rollback procedures
- Design and implement caching strategies across Cloudflare R2, KV, and edge cache to minimize latency and origin load
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for automated testing, building, and deploying the Next.js application via OpenNext Cloudflare adapter
- Monitor platform health using logging, metrics, and alerting systems — proactively identifying and resolving issues before they impact readers
- Manage Cloudflare configuration including DNS, WAF rules, rate limiting, smart placement mode, and security policies
- Optimize R2 bucket storage for static assets, cached content, and media files with proper lifecycle policies
- Implement and maintain Content Security Policy (CSP) headers, CORS policies, and other security configurations
- Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using Infrastructure as Code principles
- Conduct capacity planning and cost optimization for Cloudflare Workers usage, R2 storage, and bandwidth
- Collaborate with backend engineers on API performance, database optimization, and service reliability
- Lead incident response procedures, post-mortems, and reliability improvement initiatives
- Evaluate and integrate third-party services (CDN, analytics, email delivery) into the platform infrastructure
Requirements
- 4+ years of experience in infrastructure, DevOps, or site reliability engineering
- Strong hands-on experience with Cloudflare services (Workers, R2, Pages, KV, or D1)
- Proficiency in CI/CD pipeline design and management (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, or similar)
- Experience deploying and operating Next.js or similar SSR/SSG frameworks in production
- Solid understanding of edge computing concepts, CDN behavior, and caching hierarchies
- Knowledge of DNS management, SSL/TLS, and web security best practices
- Experience with monitoring and observability tools (Datadog, Grafana, Cloudflare Analytics, or similar)
- Scripting proficiency in Bash, Python, or TypeScript for automation tasks
- Understanding of HTTP protocol, caching headers (ETag, Cache-Control), and content delivery optimization
- Strong troubleshooting skills and comfort working under pressure during incidents
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with the OpenNext adapter or deploying Next.js to non-Vercel platforms
- Familiarity with Wrangler CLI and wrangler.jsonc configuration
- Experience operating infrastructure for high-traffic media or content platforms
- Knowledge of serverless architecture patterns and cost optimization
- Experience with Terraform, Pulumi, or other IaC tools
- Background in performance engineering and load testing
- Understanding of Node.js runtime compatibility in edge/serverless environments
- Experience with log aggregation and distributed tracing
What We Offer
- Competitive salary ($140,000 - $175,000) with meaningful equity in a Series A startup
- Fully remote work environment with flexible hours
- Health, dental, and vision insurance
- Generous PTO and company-wide recharge days
- Annual learning and development stipend ($2,000)
