About The Meridiem
The Meridiem is a fast-growing technology media platform on a mission to deliver timely, high-quality technology journalism. We cover the stories that matter across AI, startups, venture capital, cybersecurity, and enterprise tech — delivering morning briefings and evening analysis to a growing audience of technology professionals and decision-makers.
Role Overview
As a Frontend Engineer, you will craft the reader experience that defines The Meridiem. You will build fast, accessible, and visually polished interfaces using React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS v4, and shadcn/ui — ensuring that every article page, category landing, and interactive feature feels responsive and refined across all devices. This role is perfect for someone passionate about web performance, design systems, and building interfaces that millions of readers will use.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain responsive, accessible UI components using React 19, TypeScript, Tailwind CSS v4, and shadcn/ui (Radix UI primitives)
- Implement page layouts and dynamic routes in the Next.js 16 App Router, including category pages, article views, and author profiles
- Optimize frontend performance targeting excellent Core Web Vitals scores — LCP, CLS, INP, and FID
- Develop client-side state management patterns using TanStack Query for server state and React context for UI state
- Implement image optimization strategies including responsive images, WebP format, lazy loading, and device-specific sizing
- Build interactive features such as comment threads, like/bookmark systems, share dialogs, and newsletter signup flows
- Ensure WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility compliance across all user-facing pages and components
- Collaborate with designers to translate mockups and wireframes into pixel-perfect, production-ready code
- Write reusable, well-documented component libraries that maintain consistency across the platform
- Integrate with backend APIs and the Strapi CMS content layer, handling loading states, error boundaries, and data transformations
- Implement responsive navigation, search interfaces, and content filtering for the platform's six content verticals
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional frontend development experience
- Expert-level proficiency in React (18+) and TypeScript
- Strong experience with Next.js (App Router, server components, dynamic routing)
- Hands-on experience with Tailwind CSS or utility-first CSS frameworks
- Solid understanding of responsive design principles and mobile-first development
- Experience with web performance optimization (image optimization, code splitting, lazy loading, caching)
- Knowledge of web accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, ARIA patterns, semantic HTML)
- Familiarity with modern CSS features (container queries, CSS Grid, custom properties)
- Experience consuming RESTful APIs and managing async data fetching on the client
- Strong eye for design detail and commitment to UI quality
Nice-to-Have
- Experience with shadcn/ui, Radix UI, or headless component libraries
- Familiarity with TanStack Query (React Query) for server state management
- Experience with animation libraries (Framer Motion, CSS animations)
- Knowledge of SEO best practices for content-heavy sites (structured data, meta tags, Open Graph)
- Experience working at a media, publishing, or content platform
- Familiarity with Storybook or similar component documentation tools
- Understanding of Cloudflare Workers and edge rendering
- Contributions to design systems or open-source UI libraries
