About the role
About The Meridiem
The Meridiem is a fast-growing tech journalism platform delivering essential coverage of AI, startups, venture capital, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology. We provide morning briefings and evening analysis to a rapidly expanding subscriber base of tech professionals, founders, and investors. Backed by Series A funding, we are scaling our team to match our ambition of becoming the go-to source for technology news and insight.
Role Overview
We are looking for an Editor-in-Chief to set the editorial vision and lead the newsroom at The Meridiem. You will define what we cover, how we cover it, and the standard of journalism our audience can expect. This is a leadership role that combines editorial excellence with team management and business acumen — you will build a world-class editorial operation that serves an audience of tech professionals who demand accuracy, depth, and timeliness.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute The Meridiem's editorial vision, voice, and content strategy across all verticals: AI, startups, venture capital, cybersecurity, and enterprise technology.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of reporters, editors, and freelance contributors, fostering a culture of journalistic rigor and curiosity.
- Establish and enforce editorial standards including accuracy, sourcing requirements, ethics guidelines, and correction policies.
- Oversee the daily news cycle including morning briefings, breaking news, evening analysis, and long-form features.
- Make real-time editorial decisions on breaking news coverage, ensuring speed without sacrificing accuracy.
- Develop the editorial calendar and content programming strategy, balancing daily news with investigative pieces, opinion, and analysis.
- Build and maintain a network of industry sources across the technology, venture capital, and startup ecosystems.
- Collaborate with the product and growth teams to optimize content for subscriber acquisition, engagement, and retention.
- Represent The Meridiem publicly at industry events, conferences, and in media appearances.
- Partner with the business team to develop sustainable revenue models (sponsored content, events, premium tiers) that preserve editorial independence.
- Recruit top editorial talent and build a diverse newsroom that reflects the breadth of perspectives in the technology industry.
- Report to the CEO and work with the leadership team on company strategy and priorities.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in journalism, with at least 3 years in editorial leadership (managing editor, deputy editor, or equivalent).
- Deep expertise in technology journalism with a strong understanding of the AI, startup, VC, and enterprise tech landscapes.
- Proven track record of building and managing editorial teams.
- Exceptional editorial judgment — ability to identify the stories that matter and the angles that differentiate.
- Strong writing and editing skills with the ability to set and maintain a high bar for quality.
- Experience managing breaking news cycles and making rapid editorial decisions under pressure.
- Understanding of digital media business models, particularly subscription and newsletter-driven revenue.
- A robust network of sources in the technology industry.
- Commitment to journalistic ethics, independence, and accuracy.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience scaling a digital-first or newsletter-based publication.
- Background in building editorial operations from an early stage.
- Experience with multimedia content (podcasts, video, interactive features).
- Familiarity with SEO, audience analytics, and data-driven editorial strategy.
- Experience with CMS platforms and editorial workflow tools.
- Public profile as a respected voice in tech journalism.
What We Offer
- Highly competitive salary with significant equity in a Series A startup.
- Fully remote work with flexible hours.
- Health, dental, and vision benefits.
- Generous PTO and company-wide recharge days.
- Annual conference and professional development budget.
- The opportunity to define the editorial identity of a category-defining media company.
- Full editorial independence and a leadership seat at the table.
