About the role
About The Meridiem
The Meridiem is a fast-growing technology media platform delivering timely, high-quality journalism across AI, startups, venture capital, cybersecurity, and enterprise tech. We serve a discerning audience of founders, investors, engineers, and technology leaders through morning briefings, in-depth analysis, and breaking coverage — all built on Next.js 16 and deployed globally on Cloudflare Workers.
Role Overview
We are looking for a Data Analyst to transform raw data into editorial and business insights that drive The Meridiem forward. You will analyze content performance, audience behavior, subscription trends, and engagement patterns to help our editorial, product, and growth teams make smarter decisions. This role is ideal for someone who loves storytelling with data and wants to work at the intersection of journalism and analytics in a fast-paced media startup.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze content performance across all verticals (AI/ML, Startups, VC, Cybersecurity, Enterprise Tech) to identify what resonates with readers and why.
- Build and maintain dashboards in Metabase, Looker, or similar tools that give editorial, product, and leadership teams real-time visibility into key metrics.
- Track and report on audience growth, retention, and engagement metrics including newsletter open rates, article read-through rates, and session depth.
- Conduct deep-dive analyses on reader behavior — segmentation, cohort analysis, funnel conversion, and content consumption patterns.
- Partner with the editorial team to develop data-driven content strategies, identifying trending topics, optimal publishing times, and high-performing formats.
- Produce weekly and monthly performance reports with clear narratives, actionable recommendations, and trend analysis for stakeholders.
- Design and analyze A/B tests for headlines, layouts, content formats, and product features to optimize reader engagement.
- Monitor and report on SEO performance, traffic sources, and referral patterns to inform content distribution strategy.
- Collaborate with the data engineering team to define tracking requirements, validate data quality, and improve the analytics data model.
- Build self-serve analytics resources — documented metrics definitions, FAQ guides, and template queries — that empower non-technical team members.
- Identify opportunities for monetization optimization by analyzing advertising performance, subscription conversion, and reader lifetime value.
Requirements
- 3+ years of professional data analysis experience, ideally in media, publishing, content, or a consumer-facing digital product.
- Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write complex queries across large datasets — joins, window functions, CTEs, and aggregations.
- Proficiency in at least one BI/visualization tool (Metabase, Looker, Tableau, or Power BI) for building production dashboards.
- Experience with spreadsheet-based analysis and modeling in Google Sheets or Excel for ad-hoc work and presentations.
- Strong statistical literacy — understanding of significance testing, correlation vs. causation, sampling, and common analytical pitfalls.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate data findings into clear narratives and actionable recommendations for non-technical audiences.
- Experience with A/B testing methodology, including experiment design, sample sizing, and results interpretation.
- Comfort with Python or R for more advanced analysis, data cleaning, or automation is expected.
- Self-directed work style with the ability to prioritize across multiple stakeholders in a fast-moving startup.
Nice-to-Have
- Experience analyzing content or editorial performance in a news, media, or publishing organization.
- Familiarity with web analytics platforms (Google Analytics 4, Plausible, or Cloudflare Web Analytics).
- Understanding of SEO metrics and how search performance connects to content strategy.
- Experience with newsletter analytics (Beehiiv, Mailchimp, or similar platforms).
- Knowledge of subscription and paywall analytics — conversion funnels, churn analysis, and LTV modeling.
- Basic familiarity with dbt or data modeling concepts.
- Interest in technology journalism and the topics The Meridiem covers.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary ($95,000 - $125,000) with meaningful equity in a Series A startup.
- Fully remote work environment with flexible hours and async-first communication.
- Annual learning and development budget of $2,000 for conferences, courses, and certifications.
- Premium health, dental, and vision insurance coverage.
- Generous PTO policy with company-wide recharge weeks.
- Direct influence on editorial and business strategy — your analysis will shape what we publish and how we grow.
- Access to modern analytics tools and the data infrastructure to support your work.
