Role Overview
We are hiring an Account Executive to drive advertising revenue by building relationships with brands, agencies, and tech companies that want to reach our audience of founders, investors, engineers, and technology executives. You will manage the full sales cycle from prospecting through close, develop custom sponsorship packages, and consistently hit revenue targets. This is a foundational sales hire at a company with significant commercial momentum.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the full B2B advertising sales cycle from prospecting and outreach through proposal, negotiation, and close.
- Build and manage a pipeline of advertising and sponsorship opportunities with tech companies, SaaS vendors, VC firms, and agencies.
- Develop and present custom media packages including newsletter sponsorships, display advertising, sponsored content, and event partnerships.
- Hit and exceed quarterly and annual revenue targets, contributing directly to The Meridiem's commercial growth.
- Create and refine media kits, rate cards, and sales collateral that communicate the value of our audience and platform.
- Manage ongoing sponsor relationships, ensuring campaign delivery, performance reporting, and renewal opportunities.
- Collaborate with the editorial and product teams to develop new advertising formats and inventory that serve both sponsors and readers.
- Conduct market research to identify high-potential verticals, emerging advertisers, and competitive positioning opportunities.
- Represent The Meridiem at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to build brand awareness and pipeline.
- Provide accurate forecasting and pipeline reporting to leadership on a weekly and monthly cadence.
- Partner with the partnerships manager to identify bundled opportunities combining advertising with content syndication or co-marketing.
Requirements
- 3+ years of B2B advertising sales experience, preferably in digital media, publishing, or technology.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding revenue targets ($500K+ annually).
- Experience selling newsletter sponsorships, display advertising, or sponsored content to technology brands.
- Strong consultative selling skills with the ability to understand advertiser objectives and craft tailored solutions.
- Excellent presentation and communication skills for both written proposals and live pitches.
- Proficiency with CRM tools (Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar) and sales engagement platforms.
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced startup environment.
- Genuine interest in the technology industry and understanding of the B2B tech media landscape.
Nice-to-Have
- Existing relationships with tech advertisers, agencies, or marketing decision-makers.
- Experience selling into the AI, cybersecurity, cloud, or developer tools verticals.
- Background in programmatic advertising or ad operations.
- Experience at an early-stage media company or startup where you helped build the sales function.
- Familiarity with newsletter advertising platforms and metrics (CPM, CPC, open rates, CTR).
What We Offer
- Competitive base salary ($85,000 - $120,000) plus uncapped commission with realistic OTE of $140,000 - $200,000.
